Tyler is Just Like His Daddy

Tyler is just like his daddy! Not only do they look alike, they have a very similar personality. I took Tyler to the lactation specialist on Monday (an experience in and of itself) to make sure I was feeding him correctly. Anyone who really knows me, knows how modest and private I am. Well, that certainly has changed over the past week. To make a long story short, the nurse was a little concerned about how laid back Tyler is. She says it is a great personality trait as a baby, except when it comes to learning how to eat. He is very content to just snack every few hours and is completely relaxed about it. Todd and I think the baby is so afraid of his genes that he is already dieting! So number one similarity - Todd and Tyler are both laid back (not one of my best qualities).

Number two similarity - when they both fall asleep, nothing can wake them. I actually have to strip Tyler to wake him up. When he is awake though, he is a wake. Like Monday night from 11:00 PM to 3:00 AM. There is not much on TV at 2:00 AM.

Similarity number three - both Daddy and Tyler love music. Tyler is very content to sit in his swing and listen to the music or lie in his crib and listen to his crib aquarium. Daddy likes to listen to iTunes on his computer and then download a variety of selections.

Similarity - number four, they both love Mommy! I am so lucky!

So, Tyler and I went back to the lactation specialist today for a weight check. He was 8 lbs. 2 oz. at birth. At the doctor's on Friday, he was 7 lbs. 7 oz., which they said was okay, but didn't want to see him drop any more. Monday he was 7 lbs. 8 oz. and today he is 7 lbs. 9.5 oz. The nurse is pleased with his progress and believes he is finally getting the hang of eating. We will have to go back for another weight check. I personally think she just wnats to see him because he is so cute!

9013 Scottsboro Drive is a Happy Place

We have been taking the past couple of days to get situated at home and enjoy being Mommy, Daddy and Tyler. We came home from the hospital on Thursday afternoon. Tobi was anxious to see us. She has adjusted to Tyler well. She walks up to him and just looks at him. We had a quite afternoon together and Daddy finished setting up Tyler's equipment. As you can see below, Tyler loves the swing that Aunt Jen and Uncle Mark bought for him. He sat in that while we had dinner. Todd went out and got us sushi, since I couldn't eat it while I was pregnant. It tasted so good! We had a good first night at home. Tyler would sleep for three hours, eat, sleep for three hours and repeat the process. This gave me a chance to get some sleep too.

On Friday my cousin Nikki, her husband Steve and their two daughters, Noelle and Abby came over to visit. Tyler loved meeting his cousins. Abby said her third word, when she looked over, pointed at Tyler and said, "Baby!" In the afternoon, we took Tyler for his first doctor's visit. Dr. Barringer told us he his perfect, but we already knew that! He has had a bit of trouble eating, so we did have to give him a little bit of formula - especially if we want him to be a race car driver - he will need to grow big and strong. He loves to ride in the car and he also likes his carriage (thanks Uncle Adam and Aunt Danielle). I took him for his first walk around the neighborhood Friday afternoon. Friday night was a little more challenging. Tyler did not feel like sleeping, so we were up for a while and he ended up sleeping with us. He isn't spoiled yet!

On Saturday morning, Tyler got to meet his twin cousins - Brooke and Morgan. They were very excited to see him and he just stared at them. Yes, Tyler you were seeing double. In the afternoon, after a little rest, we went to Babies 'R Us for the stuff we realized only after he came that we needed. What can we say - we are new parents. We had a quiet evening together and Tyler slept three hours at a time, so we had a great night!

Sunday was a quiet day. Tyler and Daddy watched their first race together! They are so cute together. Our friend Susan came over to make us pizza for lunch and one of our neighbors came over with food for us. We have met some wonderful people here.

So much has changed for us over the past week. We can not even put it into words. I guess there really are no words to describe how blessed we feel and right it feels to have our son!

Second Night Different Than The First

Good Morning!

We survived our second night, though it was quite different than night one. Tyler decided that he wanted to experience his second night in the world awake. Let's just say his lungs work very well! He slept a half hour at a time in my arms. He is also getting the hang of eating and ate every two hours. It is now 8:30 AM and both Tyler and daddy are sleeping. Mommy is up because the doctor just came to examine me. I am feeling great and my doctor expects us both to go home today. I have also been told not to worry about my blood sugars anymore - yeah! (Guess it is okay that Todd brought me a peanut butter cup sundae last night from Friendly's - a taste of Massachusetts). They will check my sugars at my doctor's appointment next month. The pediatrician should be here to check Tyler later this morning.

With any luck we will be able to eat dinner at home tonight - all three of us! We will keep you updated and will be sure to post pictures of Tyler coming home!

Mommy & Baby are doing just great

Well, we got through Tyler's first night just fine. He isn't too cranky at all and he's been rather content to sleep. He went to the nursery around midnight and was there until about 3:30, when he was brought in to have a snack. Then he stayed with Jenn and I and slept until about 6:00. The pediatrician has already been in to see him and he's just fine! Jenn's doing great too-she feels really good and has little pain. Here's some more pictures...

Today's The Day

Looks like today is the day that Pokey will arrive! After a great birthday dinner for Todd last night and a restful night's sleep, my water broke this morning at 5:15 AM. I woke Todd up and we called the doctor's office. They said to come to the hospital. We both took a quick shower(since there were no labor pains), fed Tobi (our lab retreiver) and grabbed our bags. We got to the hospital around 6:00 AM and got hooked up to all of the monitors. Pokey has a strong heartbeat and we are all comfortable. I am having a few contractions, but they are not to bad yet and I am about 5 centimeters dialated. Now we wait....

Pokey's Room

Sorry for the delay, but here are the pictures I promised of Pokey's room. Hope you like. No other news to report at the moment, but we have an ultrasound on Tuesday, which will likely decide if they will induce early or just let nature take it's course. We'll keep y'all posted...

We've got a newfound apprciation for Carly Simon...

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

Nothing new to report yet, but we have a docs appointment tomorrow to go over the gameplan for Pokey's arrival. Turns out this baby already takes after its Daddy -- rarely ontime and certainly not early...

PS: If anyone knows a cure to get that song out of my head, please give me a call...
